Ms Rita Rae has been a beloved resident of Plano for the last 52 years, living in this home for 36 of those years. After her husband’s illness and passing, Rita faced her own health challenges, including a heart transplant 17 years ago. With no living family members to help, she has bravely managed on her own, but her fixed Social Security income leaves her unable to keep up with the mounting costs of home repairs, medical needs, and daily living expenses. Rita’s home has now fallen into complete disrepair. She cannot afford the extensive repairs required, and the City of Plano has placed a strict deadline on getting her home fixed. Despite her efforts, including working with a pro-bono attorney, Rita is facing mounting pressure from the City of Plano, including charges for yard work, threats of liens with high interest, and even nine criminal charges if she cannot comply. A small group of volunteers has come together to help Rita, but they cannot do this alone. Rita could be anyone’s mother or grandmother, and she deserves a safe, clean place to live. Funds raised will help Rita fix the home's disrepair. The home has no hot water, major structural and foundation defects, a leaking roof, extensive wood rot, and the cast iron plumbing system needs to be completely replaced. Previous water damage also needs to be remediated to make the home safe. Your support—whether through donations or by sharing this fundraiser—means the world to Rita and all who care about her. Thank you for helping give Rita hope and a safe place to call home.
