Help Riley Get a Home

Thank you for visiting this page.

I am hoping to raise money for Riley, a little boy diagnosed with a rare condition (Tuberous Sclerosis) which caused a brain tumour in lockdown 2020. The brain tumour unfortunately took Rileys sight so he is now registered blind.

Riley & family currently don't have a home of their own at the moment, due to financial difficulties the family, in a bid to save money, moved into a static van/holiday home.

I am hoping to raise money to put towards a deposit for a house, a place that can be adapted for Riley's developmental needs into a loving, safe home environment for both Riley & family.

Up until May 2020 Riley was your average 5 year old boy, he was happy, bright, loving and had a great life to look forward to. Unfortunately in May 2020 Riley started to complain to his family of vision issues, he had been under the care of a local hospital for over 2 years previously due to having issues with his sight from an early age. His vision loss rapidly declined, he was rushed into hospital and underwent lots of tests and scans.

27/05/2020 the family was dealt a huge blow, Riley's MRI scan had shown a tennis ball sized brain tumour and a build-up of fluid/pressure around Riley's optic nerves & brain.

Riley was rushed off to a hospital many miles away from home that specialised in brain tumour treatments. This all happened when the country was in a national lockdown forcing the family to be split. Only one family member was allowed to be with Riley during his hospital stay and due to him now being seriously vulnerable they were not allowed to swap over, Riley's Mum, Mel therefore stayed in hospital with Riley for the whole duration whilst Ben, Riley's Dad held the fort at home and looked after their other son, Jacob. I can't even imagine the pain, uncertainty and upset the family had to go through being forced to split up when your child has been diagnosed with such an awful brain tumour.

Riley was diagnosed with Tuberous Sclerosis (TSC) in June 2020 after undergoing a 7 hour operation to remove as much of the tumour as possible. The specialists along with Riley's family were hoping that as some of the pressure would have now been taken from Riley's head that his sight might return. Unfortunately the surgeons confirmed that permanent damage had already been made to Riley's optic nerves behind his eyes and that it would be highly unlikely that his sight would ever return.

Since this diagnosis Riley has also been diagnosed with epilepsy, which is a side effect of his condition. Along with also needing a hearing aid due to having a perforated eardrum from the stresses of surgery.

Despite this cruel diagnosis Riley remains a happy, bubbly young boy and has coped with losing his sight extremely well. He is learning to walk aided with a cane and has since returned to school part time and is working towards learning braille with the wonderful help from school and his carers along with lots of aid and love of his family and friends.

Back to the part of Riley needing a home.

Due to the financial difficulties, Riley's family have found themselves living in a static van/holiday home. They are finding this super tough as they just do not have enough room for Riley to safely move around by himself. On Christmas Eve the family were evacuated due to the park being flooded, they were not able to return until Mid Jan until the water levels had receded.

The local council have tried to help, however houses that can be adapted and are suitable for Riley's needs are few and far between, and it could be a matter of years before a suitable house becomes available.

I am hoping to raise enough money to be able to assist Riley's family in getting a deposit for a home, a loving and safe environment for Riley to grow up in and not be worried that he will bring harm to himself simply through being at home.
