We are a communal household in Ridgewood facing eviction from sudden and unexpected rent arrears and legal fees. Our home has been more than just a place to live—it has been a refuge, a gathering space, and a community hub for our neighbors. Now, we are reaching out for help to stay in our home and continue supporting our community.

Why We Need Your Help

We are currently $12,000 in debt due to rent arrears and legal fees, and we must raise these funds by April 31 to avoid eviction. Like so many in New York City, we have struggled to keep up with rising costs while maintaining a home that prioritizes care. And while today we have a payment procedure with our landlord that ensures transparency and up-to-date payments, we recently came to learn about years-old underpayments, some of which took place during the pandemic.

Our apartment has always been open to those in need—whether long-term or short-term, regardless of financial status, employment, or citizenship. We have provided shelter for displaced individuals, offered a safe space for those in transition, and remained a hub for community organizing.

In addition to being a home, our apartment features a large garden that has been a source of fresh produce for the surrounding community in a metropolitan area. This space has nourished not just our household, but many others who have relied on it for food and connection.

We have always believed in mutual aid, in showing up for each other when times are hard. Now, we’re asking for help so that we can continue doing the same for others.
