Carolina Exterminating is seeking your help on behalf of someone truly special — Rick Fowler, a longtime West Ashley resident and a quiet hero in our community.

For 23 years, Rick has run a local landscaping business. But his work goes far beyond trimming hedges or mowing lawns. Rick has a heart for people — especially those who are struggling. He regularly employs individuals experiencing homelessness, giving them a chance to earn, to rebuild, and to feel seen. He also steps up for senior citizens who can’t care for their yards, often helping them free of charge, simply because it’s the right thing to do.

Years ago, Rick’s life changed in an instant. While helping two women stranded on the side of the road with a broken-down car, Rick was struck by another vehicle. The accident was devastating — and he ultimately lost his leg. Thanks to the expert care at MUSC and his own incredible resilience, Rick now wears a prosthetic leg and continues to work hard every single day.

But right now, Rick needs our support.

His work truck — essential to his landscaping business — is no longer reliable. Without it, he’s unable to continue serving his clients and supporting those who depend on him for a job, a kind word, or a helping hand.

We’re rallying together to raise funds to help Rick purchase a new truck. It’s not just a vehicle — it’s a tool that allows him to keep doing the work he loves, to keep giving back, and to keep moving forward.
