Help Richard Get Back on His Feet
When I learned what my friend Richard has been going through over the past several months, I felt compelled to reach out to our community and ask for help.
Richard is a soft-spoken soul with a beautiful heart who has devoted much of his life to helping others through his work as an Ayurvedic practitioner and Vedic counsellor. He is usually the person offering guidance, support and healing to others.
But what happens when the healer needs healing too?
Since January, Richard has been dealing with a severe and painful health condition called hidradenitis suppurativa (HS). It has required ongoing medical treatment and surgery, and he is still receiving nursing care while he recovers. The prolonged pain and physical toll have also placed tremendous strain on his nervous system and have made it difficult for him to return to work.
At the same time, Richard has been facing several major life challenges and losses that would be difficult for anyone to carry individually, let alone all at once. Out of respect for Richard and his family, I won’t share the private details. What I can say is that the combination of illness, prolonged recovery, family responsibilities, unexpected loss and the need to relocate has created an overwhelming financial and emotional burden.
After being unable to work consistently for many months, Richard has used much of his savings simply trying to recover and keep his life together. He now needs something very basic but incredibly important: a stable place to live and enough breathing room to heal.
I am hoping to raise $12,000 to help Richard secure a more affordable home and cover essential living expenses during this transition. The funds will help with first and last month’s rent, moving expenses, basic household necessities and food while he continues recovering and works toward receiving disability support.
For Richard, getting into a stable new environment would mean much more than simply having a new address. It would give him a foundation from which he can recover, regain his strength and eventually return to the work he loves—helping others through Ayurveda, Vedic counselling and his involvement in the community.
Sometimes the person who has spent so much time helping others has to allow others to help him.
This is one of those moments.
If you are able to contribute, no amount is too small. And if you cannot donate, simply sharing Richard’s story may help it reach someone who can.
Your kindness, generosity and support are deeply appreciated.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping my friend get back on his feet.
With love and gratitude,
Avo
