We need help reuniting two teenage girls with their family in Mexico.
UPDATE: Thank you all to who have donated so far! We've raised enough to cover their flights. However we need to continue fundraising to cover their stolen belongings and remaining moving expenses.
Through Fostering Success, we have been mentoring two sisters. Their dad came to the United States 20 years ago. He was a tree worker and he had a terrible fall several years ago that left him disabled. This limited the work he could do and put the family in debt with medical bills and in unstable living conditions.
The girls' grandma came to the U.S. on an emergency visa to care for the family after his accident and has been helping to raise her two grandchildren ever since. The girls' grew up without a mother, as she left when they were infants. Their father, who was their provider their entire lives, passed away one year ago. Now, the grandma is unable to make ends meet for all three of them and they need a new living situation.
A year before his passing, the girls were able to meet their grandfather and family for the first time. They have a huge extended family in Celaya, Mexico and their dream is to be reunited with them.
They recently entrusted a family friend to transport their clothing, personal belongings, and photo albums to Mexico. Unfortunately, he was robbed at gunpoint and his truck along with all of their possessions were stolen.
Our goal is to raise $4,000 to help with travel expenses, including airfare, bus tickets, as well as replacement of some of their clothing and personal belongings.
We would like to make this dream a reality by the end of August and reunite their Grandma with her husband that she has not seen in 20 years and the girls with their entire family.
We have enjoyed mentoring the girls over the past year through Fostering Success. They have experienced many hardships and were reluctant to let us into their lives at first, but they eventually opened up and we were able to form a strong bond with them.
They are shy but they became more comfortable with us, and we found them to be silly and very sweet. We have had many laughs and good times and have enjoyed being a part of many of their first experiences like going to the movies, or bowling for the first time ever!
While we have grown close to them and have enjoyed getting to know them we have also witnessed their faces light up when they tell us about their family and the time spent with them in Mexico. They really want to be with their loved ones and we would love to make that a possibility.
Thank you,
Lisa and Sherri
