As Rowan and I navigated the immigration process for his US Green Card, we were misled and misunderstood key information. What we thought was a routine trip back to the UK to finish the last step of the process has turned into a living nightmare. Row has now incurred a 3-year ban for overstaying his visa here in the US. We thought we were protected from overstay issues as he is married to a US citizen and has a US citizen child, however we were not protected after all. He has our son, Ezra, with him and they're both in the UK at the moment. They went to spend the holidays with Row’s family, sort out the green card, and then fly back to the states to finally, fully start our lives here in the US. Up until now, we've been on a single income (mine) and he has been the best stay-at-home dad. Now, we have to navigate trying to afford two households in two countries, daycare for Ezra, this legal battle, and this separation. We have no idea when we'll all be able to see each other again or be together as a family.
There is a small sliver of hope, and that would be to file a waiver to dismiss the ban. It could be at least a year before it even goes through, if it goes through, but it's still better than 3+ years and we still have to try. For the waiver, we need to prove that this separation will impose extreme hardship on me, the US citizen. Funds raised will go toward legal fees, filing fees, evaluation fees, any additional costs that may come up in the process, and to help Ezra and I travel to the UK every now and then to be together as a family, no matter how short that time is. This support will help us fight for our chance to be reunited and keep our family strong through this difficult time.
Thank you for taking the time to read our story and understand the heartbreak and difficulty we're facing. We genuinely thought we were doing everything correct this whole time, only to be blindsided and find out we weren't safe the whole time. Any support, no matter how small, will be greatly appreciated and go directly towards reuniting us as a family, here in the US.
