My name is Robert, and I am reaching out for help to reunite my family. My wife, Ma Lei, and I have been married for more than fifteen years, and we have a nine-year-old son, Roman. Roman is an autistic child, high-functioning and extremely sociable, but challenging in terms of following rules and remembering to put things in their proper places. He takes a lot of extra care, that a “normal” child would not. For nearly all of our marriage, Ma Lei and I have lived together as a family: owning property together, moving to various parts of China whenever my job called on me to relocate, and taking care of each other. When I had cancer in 2023, it was she who kept me alive through constant support, finding the right doctors and the right medicines, figuring out how to pay for it all, and even delivering food to me at the hospital.
However, for the past 18 months, Ma Lei has been separated from us due to the long and complicated visa application process. We filed our visa application in December of 2023, and Roman and I moved to America in June of that same year. This move was required by Roman’s special needs. Chinese schools simply cannot accommodate a child with his unique way of learning. We thought at the time that she could join us in a matter of months. The USCIS website told us that she had a few months before her visa adjudication. But it’s taken until now for us to get past all the hardest immigration hurdles. All that stands between us now is Ma Lei’s Consular interview. It has now been almost two years since we began this journey, and the separation has been incredibly hard on all of us. Our son misses his mother deeply, and I miss my heartbeat every day. As a cancer survivor, I am still undergoing expensive medical care, and having Ma Lei by my side would make a world of difference for my health and well-being.
We are asking for help to cover the costs of hiring an attorney to guide Ma Lei through her final visa interview, her flight to the United States, and to support my ongoing care until she is able to join us. Any contribution, no matter the size, will bring us one step closer to being together again. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your kindness and support.
