Help reunite Northampton man with dad's WWI medal

Help reunite Northampton pensioner Bill Birch with his father's long-lost WWI medal, which has turned up for auction on eBay after being missing for decades.

Private Jack Birch of the Northamptonshire Yeomanry and a veteran of the First World War passed away in 1977.

No one knows how, but when Jack's son Bill went to clear out the family home in the early 2000s, they discovered Jack's British War Medal could not be found. It has not been seen since.

Now, Pte Birch's old war medal and its original paperwork has appeared for auction on eBay.

This crowdfunding campaign has been launched by the Northampton Chronicle & Echo newspaper to help reunite Bill and his family with his father's long-lost medal.

After speaking with the Chron & Echo, the seller has agreed to close the auction and name Bill the winner for £75 - which, out of good faith, he says is marginally more than he paid to acquire it.

The seller is well in their rights to sell the medal as a piece of memorabilia. They acquired it legitimately from a collection and does this as a small business. He has also already received bids from interested buyers. It means there is a risk the medal will be taken into a private collection and be lost to Jack's family for good.

For a small donation, you can help reunite Bill with a vital piece of his father's history.

Any more funds  that exceed the £75 target will be donated to a charity of Bill and his family's choice.

Thank you for your time.
