Re: Request for Compassionate Consideration and Release of My Wife, Maisa Lopes Eliaser

My name is Alexis Jaramillo, and I respectfully ask for your compassion and consideration regarding my wife, Maisa Lopes Eliaser, who was detained by ICE on July 8, 2026, during her adjustment of status interview.

I am an active-duty Soldier in the United States Army, currently stationed at Fort Polk, Louisiana. I have proudly served this country for the past 11 years. During my military career, I most recently served as an Advanced Individual Training (AIT) Instructor, where I had the privilege of training more than 300 Soldiers who now serve our nation. I remain committed to my oath and to defending the United States, but it has become incredibly difficult to fulfill my duties while my wife remains in detention.

Our family has been torn apart. Our son, Noah, is only 5 years old and is a U.S. citizen. He needs his mother at home. Every day he asks about her, and it is heartbreaking to see him struggle without her love, care, and guidance. As a father and a Soldier, I am doing everything I can to care for him while continuing to serve my country.

My wife is not a danger to the community. She has always tried to follow the immigration process in good faith. She appeared for her adjustment of status interview because she wanted to comply with the law and complete the legal process honestly.

On July 13, 2026, we submitted a Motion to Reopen her immigration case because she never received notice of her original immigration court hearing. The Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR) accepted our motion on July 21, 2026. The Immigration Judge gave the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) until July 30, 2026, to respond. However, on July 27, 2026, before that response deadline, the Immigration Judge denied our Motion to Reopen. This decision has caused our family significant emotional and financial hardship. We have already spent thousands of dollars in legal fees, and we are now forced to file an appeal, creating even more financial strain while my wife remains detained.

I respectfully ask that you allow my wife to return home while her immigration case is pending and while we pursue our appeal. Keeping our family together would allow our 5-year-old son to have his mother back and would relieve the tremendous hardship our family is experiencing. It would also enable me to continue serving the United States with the peace of mind that my family is safe and together.

As a Soldier who has dedicated 11 years of faithful service to this country, I respectfully ask that my family's situation be considered with compassion and humanity. I ask only for the opportunity for my wife to continue her legal immigration process from home, surrounded by her family, rather than from detention.

Thank you for your time, compassion, and consideration. I respectfully request your favorable consideration of my wife's release so our family can be reunited.
