Help Reunite June and their Mom!

We are raising money for June, our devoted community member who wants to ensure their mother is loved, cared for, considered, and free as she navigates the final stages of living with Lewy Body Dementia.

June has been supporting their mom through her diagnosis, treatment, and preparation for end of life care since 2024. As conflicts have arisen within the family on approaches to care, misuse of mom’s personal funds, and the family’s homophobia, June has been restricted from visiting and continuing to care for their mom. During the time when she needed personalized care the most, June’s mom was separated from her only child. Mom experienced medical neglect, has been moved to several different locations for care, was isolated from loved ones and community, and altogether deprived of quality of life.

The pair have been deeply affected by the inequities that affect Black, queer, and chronically ill women and caregivers. This mother and her child’s spirits are intertwined. Supporting mama’s peaceful transition is an active part of healing the cycles of generational harm between Black mothers and daughters, and tending to the wounds of Black girlhood. June wants their mother to spend her last days comfortable and doing what she loved: listening to music, admiring pretty flowers, spending time with lifelong friends, and tasting delicious food. Mom should not die alone in a facility or stuck in a hospital where she has already spent much of her life.

June is taking legal action to fight for their mother’s needed care, visitation, and ultimately reunification. We are asking for $35,000 which will help cover legal fees and resources for June and their mom as they navigate this journey.

Deepest gratitude to you for taking the time to hear their story and for any funds shared. Please consider sharing this GoFundMe amongst your networks and communities.

“My mother is so full of joy and life. I am her child. And that is better than being the child of anyone else in the world.”
