HELP REUNITE BROTHER AND SISTER 87 YEARS LATER!

Hi, we are the Silva family, and we are fundraising to help our dad/grandad, João, reunite with his long-lost sister, Elsie, in Sierra Leone after 87 years of no contact.

In 1935 João (5) and Elsie (3) lived in São Tomé (an island in west Africa), where they were both born, with their mom. That year Elsie's dad's work as a field engineer abruptly ended, and he decided to move back to Sierra Leone, where he was originally from and took Elsie with him.

Dad/Grandad, João, went on to grow up in São Tomé with their mum, and Elsie grew up in Sierra Leone with her dad without ever seeing each other again.

For many years their mum searched and wondered what had happened to her child.

In his early 50s, with the help of a family friend that worked for the Red Cross the siblings were able to exchange information and pictures with Elsie. (see below)

With this newfound information, the family was finally close to seeing each other after all those years... Sadly, neither side of the family was able to travel across.

Not long after that, due to the conflicts and coups, Elsie and her family were forced to relocate, Elsie's family home, unfortunately, burnt down, and they lost almost everything.

Once again, the family lost contact.

The years that followed were spent searching and wondering if Elsie was alive, with no luck.

Their mum sadly passed away in 2006, at 97 years old, without ever knowing what happened to her child.

The search for Elsie continued as it was their mum's biggest regret and dad's/grandad's biggest wish to find his baby sister.

In 2022 one of dad's/grandad's children, Vera, posted on a Facebook group called 'Old photos of Sierra Leone' in search of any information about the potential family in Sierra Leone.

In March 2023, Elsie's foster daughter recognised her photo and reached out.

Vera was put in contact with Constant, Elsie's only child. After speaking for a few days and confirming identities, we broke the news to dad/grandad - WE FOUND HIS LONG-LOST SISTER AFTER 87 YEARS!

They saw each other for the first time after 87 years via WhatsApp. She only speaks English; he only speaks Portuguese... but they are so HAPPY!!

Elsie lives in Sierra Leone, and we are organising the trip to get dad/granddad to meet his sister.

We want to share this story not only because of God's faithfulness but because we need funds so dad/granddad doesn’t travel alone.

We will be leaving on March 25th 2023* for 10 days, and as such, any amount helps!

Olá, somos a família Silva, e estamos a arrecadar fundos para ajudar nosso pai / avô, João, a se reunir com sua irmã há muito perdida, Elsie, na Serra Leoa depois de 87 anos sem contato.

Em 1935 João (5) e Elsie (3) viveram em São Tomé, onde ambos nasceram, com a mãe. Naquele ano, o trabalho do pai da Elsie como engenheiro terminou abruptamente, e ele decidiu voltar para a Serra Leoa, de onde ele era originalmente e levou a Elsie com ele.

O pai/avô, João, cresceu em São Tomé com a mãe, e a Elsie cresceu na Serra Leoa com o pai, sem nunca mais se verem.

Durante muitos anos, a mãe procurou e se perguntou o que tinha acontecido com a sua filha.

No início dos anos 50, com a ajuda de um amigo da família que trabalhava para a Cruz Vermelha, os irmãos foram capazes de trocar informações e fotos com a Elsie. (Abaixo)

Com esta recém-descoberta informação, a família estava finalmente perto de se ver depois de todos esses anos... Infelizmente, nenhum dos lados da família conseguiu fazer a viagem.

Não muito depois disso, devido aos conflitos e golpes de estado, Elsie e sua família foram forçados a se mudar, a casa da família de Elsie, infelizmente, queimou, e perderam quase tudo.

Mais uma vez, a família perdeu contato.

Os anos que se seguiram foram passados procurando e se perguntando se Elsie estava viva mas, sem sorte.

A mãe faleceu em 2006, aos 97 anos de idade, sem saber o que aconteceu com a sua filha.

A busca por Elsie continuou porque foi o maior arrependimento de sua mãe e o maior desejo do pai / avó de encontrar sua irmã.

Em 2022, um dos filhos do pai / avó, Vera, postou em um grupo do Facebook chamado "Fotos antigas da Serra Leoa" em busca de qualquer informação sobre a possível família na Serra Leona.

Em março de 2023, a filha adotiva de Elsie reconheceu sua foto e enviou mensagem a Vera.

Vera foi colocada em contato com Constant, o único filho da Elsie. Depois de falar por alguns dias e confirmar as identidades, compartilhamos a notícia com o pai / avó - ENCONTRAMOS A SUA IRMÃ PERDIDA DEPOIS DE 87 ANOS!

Eles se viram pela primeira vez em 87 anos através de uma videochamada no WhatsApp. Ela só fala inglês; ele só fala português... mas eles estão tão FELIZES!!

Elsie vive na Serra Leoa, e estamos a organizar a viagem para conseguir que o pai / avô conheca sua irmã.

Queremos compartilhar esta história não só por causa da fidelidade de Deus, mas porque precisamos de fundos para que o pai / avô não viaje sozinho.
