My name is Jason Mirabella and I am raising money for a friend of mine named Joe. Joe is in early recovery, and it is amazing to watch him retake the role of the patriarch and spiritual leader of his family.
I cannot fix all of Joe's difficulties, although I wish I could. But there is one thing that God has laid on my heart that I can try and do for him. Right now, his young daughter is in jail. She has been for five months. I cannot speak to the facts of her case. What I do know, however, is that if she were born into a wealthy family, she would have been home with her family for the past five months, working with her family and her lawyer to prepare for a case that is non-violent and non-drug related.
I cannot help but imagine what if it were one of my kids. That level of powerlessness is something that I can only imagine. I am only trying to raise enough money to pay the bail bond to get her out and put her on even footing with other people her age and with no prior record, separated only by the ability to come up with a few thousand dollars. I think this part of our system is unfair, and this is one small we can try and push back against the way people without money are treated differently than people who do. I say "small" because for us it is. For this family, though, this is HUGE.
