Help retiree with string trimmers for median maintenance
Donation protected
I've volunteered my time on the Indianapolis Nora 86th Street Medians since February and am in need of a gas weed eater that will be used exclusively on these medians, plus funds to replace my wife's nice Ego trimmer that I destroyed by working on these islands.
The medians were in such poor shape that I decided to fix them myself. Since February, I've spent about 100 hours edging the grass, digging mud off the bricks, spraying for weeds, and picking up trash. Twice I've worked seven days in a row.
However, I found a better way to keep mud and weeds off the bricks other than my flat shovel and 600 pounds of salt, so far. I bought this wire brush for our weed eater and it worked wonderfully for 10 minutes then broke. Either the motor burned out or the circuit board overheated. It's my wife's three-year-old electric Ego. I want to raise money to replace my wife's weed trimmer that I've now destroyed plus buy a new gas trimmer exclusively for island maintenance.
You thought all the medians were adopted, so what am I doing? Several medians have NO adopters even though there are signs suggesting so. Others have no signs nor adopters. And even those that are adopted usually just get only a cut. I still remove the mud and weeds from the bricks, pick up trash, and spray for weeds. And it's paid off as 86th looks much better, and now I drive down 86th just to see the views!
I thank you in advance as I've learned a lot about how to make the medians look much better with less of my effort!

See my before and after pics here. This is but a couple of about 16 medians I work on regularly!
