Help Restore Wayside Chapel's Sign

Donation protected
Greetings fellow neighbors and visitors of the Wayside Chapel! We are starting a GoFundMe to help pay for replacing and repairing the sign, framing and footing.

About a month ago when a quick, yet very strong storm ran through the valley, the sign was blown out of the frame and became warped, chipped, and damaged. The original sign is made out of phenolic with a laminate graphic cover. This is a very lightweight and durable material, yet doesn't forgive to flexing and can shatter when stressed beyond it's original shape.

As you can see in the photos, the sign is warped quite a bit and a small section has broken off. Being warped, it makes it impossible to securely mount the sign flush between a frame.

After discussing repair/replacement options with Christopher (the steward of the Chapel and member of New Hope Fellowship in Monroe [the church in charge of keeping the Chapel]) along with another local volunteer, Albert, we have collectively decided a design change would save the sign from being damaged during high wind storms. Our goal is to do the following:

- Have a new sign made by a local business in 6mm thick aluminum, covered in a vinyl graphic on both sides to match the original design. - this will not corrode and is lightweight.
- Hang the sign from the top frame by looped, secure hooks which would allow the sign to sway in heavy winds rather than being a sturdy sail and absorbing all the energy of heavy winds and putting too much stress on the framing.
- Pour concrete footings in the ground at both legs to make the sign more sturdy and sealing the legs from sitting in wet soil which can cause rotting over time.
- Finally, replacing some rotten or damaged wood on the framing of the sign itself to complete the repair.
- And of course, touch-up any paint as needed.

The $560 covers the cost of making the aluminum sign including adding the graffiti-resistant vinyl graphic on both sides. New Hope Fellowship with pay for the rest of the materials as I listed above!

In advance, thank you, to you all for your support and trust. We look forward to working on the Chapel and ensuring it's durability into th efuture!
