My name is Brian Lynn and I am the Historian for the Town of Fleming. With permission from the Cemetery Board, I have begun to restore the gravestones in the oldest section of the Fleming Rural Cemetery.
This section contains around 200 graves of the early pioneer families to this area. The graves date from 1810 to 1863, with most prior to 1850.
This section also contains 15 of the 29 Revolutionary War Soldiers that are buried in Fleming.
Mother nature and time have not been kind to many of these gravestones, and they are in need of care before they are lost forever.
I live right down the road from this cemetery, so I have the proximity to do this work. I have the drive, the energy and the basic knowledge. But I don't have the funds to do this. To do this correctly is costly. For example, the cleaner is $68 a gallon, the epoxy to repair the broken stones is $200.
I think those who early in life fought for our new country, but later on settled in a new area and shape the town we live in deserve it.
Thank You for your support!
