Help Bring Back the Tamborine and Fan Day Camp!
Founded in 1968 by beloved community leader Jerome “Big Duck” Smith, the Tamborine and Fan Organization of New Orleans has long been a force for peace, empowerment, and culture in our city. One of its most impactful programs—the Tamborine and Fan Day Camp at Hunter’s Field—served generations of youth with love, mentorship, and purpose.
After several years of silence, we’re bringing it back—but we need your help to make it happen.
This summer, we plan to restore the camp’s legacy by offering:
• Free meals and snacks for every camper
• Cultural education through African drumming, dance, storytelling, and history
• Mentorship by local artists, educators, and elders
• Transportation, supplies, and daily supervision
• A safe and structured space for children to learn, play, and grow
Hunter’s Field has always been more than just a park—it’s sacred ground, where music meets movement and community meets care.
Your donation helps us provide a safe, creative, and culturally grounded summer experience for New Orleans children—especially those in need of positive support and structure.
Whether you knew Big Duck, attended the camp, or simply believe in community-powered change, we ask you to join us.
Donate today. Share widely. Help us keep the beat alive.
