We are restoring a 1954 American LaFrance fire truck that was originally delivered to the Somerville Mass Fire Dept in 1954. After serving the community for decades, the truck was sold around 1990 to a department in Upstate New York. In 2020, we discovered it had made its way to Minnesota, where someone purchased it with the intention of restoring it. We reached out to the owner and explained our desire to bring the truck back to its original home. Through several small fundraisers, we were able to purchase the truck and bring it back to Massachusetts.
This summer, we found a repair shop specializing in old firetrucks, and our progress has been more than expected. However, with the age of the truck and having it sit unused for over 20 years, we have gone over our budget. Between needed parts and labor, and having it towed to Connecticut and back, we are hoping for a little financial boost to keep the restoration moving forward.
Our goal has always been to have the truck become part of the Somerville Fire Dept's history and participate in parades and public events. Any support will help us preserve this piece of local history and share it with the community. Thank you for considering a donation to help us restore this special fire truck!
