We are heartbroken to share that on the evening of 31st October, a fire was deliberately started at Par Track, causing significant damage to our athletics facility. The high jump bed and its metal cover have been completely destroyed, and the track surface itself has been damaged by the intense heat.

This senseless act has left our community devastated. Par Track is a vital local facility — run with pride, care, and commitment — providing a safe, welcoming space for people of all ages to be active, social, and healthy. It’s a place where friendships are formed, confidence grows, and the community comes together.

The damage doesn’t only affect Par Track, but also Newquay and Par Athletics Club, who train here weekly and rely on the high jump facility for their athletes. The loss of this equipment is a huge blow to their training sessions and athlete development.

Unfortunately, the cost of replacing the high jump equipment and repairing the damaged areas of the track will run into tens of thousands of pounds. We are determined to rebuild and restore the track for everyone who uses and loves it — but we need your help to do so.

We are hopeful that the majority of the costs can be recovered through our insurance; however, there will still be a shortfall due to policy excesses and other costs not covered. Any money raised over and above this shortfall will be reinvested into improving the facilities at Par Track — including upgrading our CCTV system and enhancing site security to help ensure that incidents like this never happen again.

Replacing the high jump bed and cover

Repairing the track surface

Covering insurance shortfalls, excesses, and premium increases

Improving site security and CCTV coverage
