Hello! We are the Sangre de Cristo Vocal Arts Ensemble.
Recently, Choir Director Kalima Masse discovered that most of the choir’s sound equipment had been stolen from the room behind the altar area in the La Veta Methodist Church.
Who is this choir?
You know them, and no matter where you may live in Huerfano County, at least one of them is your neighbor. Every Christmas, Easter, Memorial Day, and End-of-Summer-Extravaganza opportunity, their voices come together to inspire, uplift, and entertain you. They are the Sangre de Cristo Vocal Arts Ensemble, Huerfano’s premiere community choir, featuring singers from all across Huerfano County, even from Pueblo and Trinidad. Their singers range from high-schoolers to seniors, combining all levels of musical abilities and experience. Their mission? To make ‘A Joyful Noise’ for everyone to hear – and they’ve been doing just that for over 10 years. This year they have 27 voices making that Joyful Noise. Sun, rain, or snow, they come to rehearsals when most of us are settling in for the evening. And they do this all for the love of our wonderful community – to make your Christmas, Easter, and patriotic seasons memorable, sparkling, and full of joy!
The choir’s venues include La Veta, Cuchara, Walsenburg, Aguilar, and Gardner, as well as the Spanish Peaks Veterans Community Living Center, but the acoustics of each venue may vary and often need assistance. The choir has used your generous donations in the past to purchase sheet music and risers, and also quality sound equipment including microphones, speakers, receivers, mixers, and more. The Methodist Church in La Veta has generously allowed the choir to rehearse there for over 10 years, and Masse laments, “It breaks my heart that someone would see only the monetary value of this equipment, never caring that they were taking something that brings such joy to the people of our community.”
The choir needs your help to replace our stolen sound equipment.
Our hope is that we will be able to purchase new sound equipment before our December 19, 20, and 21 performances and make our Christmas Concerts a resounding success. Our community is a gem. The choir gives it sparkle. Your support means the world to us. Thank you from the bottom of our joyfully noisy hearts for your presence at our performances and your assistance in making them happen.
