Del Principe Family Monument Restoration
Glenn has finished the second part of restoring our Del Principe family monument and it looks stunning! He applied a dark grey Lithichrome paint to the engraved letters on the upper portion.
The Del Principe lettering is raised and polished granite and the paint won’t stick to the letters, so it was applied to the background. Glenn told me that “the letters were Hand Tooled V-Cut which was done by hand with a chisel and mallet back in the day. It is truly a lost art, and very expensive to duplicate today. $150.00 plus per character. This lettering style is considered a high premium today”.
Thank you to all for helping to complete the restoration of this fabulous monument. It’s wonderful to see our family come together to honor our shared history. Pietro and Elvira’s memory will continue to stand strong for our future generations!
A special thank you to Glenn Cygan from Memories in the Making whose attention to detail shines through in his delicate and caring restoration of our family’s heritage.

The last phase of the Del Principe Family Monument restoration will cost $775.00.
If you contributed to the first phase of our restoration, we want to express our sincere gratitude.
After reaching our goal and closing the initial Go Fund Me campaign, we received several messages from family members asking how they could help. Please consider a contribution to the final phase of the restoration.
When Phyllis asked Glenn about restoring the lettering on our monument he suggested a 2-step process using Lithichrome paint. Paint is applied to the letters to enhance the contrast of the text. First, he will mask all the letters and then he will paint the text. If we commit to both phases of the restoration Glenn has offered us a $100.00 discount.
As you can see from the image the text on our monument is barely legible. In this photo the phrase above the Del Principe name should say Resta In Pace (Rest In Peace) and it's barely visible.
Thank you for helping us keep the memory of our ancestors alive.

As many of you know, the monument honoring Pietro Del Principe and Elvira Ciolli at Mount Carmel Cemetery in Hillside IL, stands as a testament to their legacy. However, time has not been kind, and the monument is now in need of repair. We believe that preserving this site is not just about maintaining the memorial; it's about honoring our ancestors.
This is where we need your help. Each contribution, no matter the size, will make a significant difference in reaching our goal. By coming together as a family, we can restore this monument to its former glory, ensuring that Pietro and Elvira's memory continues to connect us all. Let's honor our past and protect our family legacy for those who come after us.
My sister Phyllis Zeck and I have secured a bid for the necessary cleaning and restoration from a professional, I've included the work details below.

Statue: There is a heavy lichen growth on the statue. This will require a biological cleaner that I use to remove the growth. This statue is a soft material, so hand brushing is required.
Monument: The large granite monument has some staining as well as lichen growth as well. I will treat the granite with the biological cleaner, scrub and then rinse off with the power washer.
Cameos: I will razor blade any excess caulking from the ceramic photos. I will not replace the caulk, but keep the original caulking in place. These should be fine and do not require any adjustments.
Total cost for Monument & Statue restoration will be $900.00.
