Simpson’s Market, and its proprietor, Mr. Michael Simpson. Mr. Simpson has been a pillar of our community for over 50 years, operating the longest-running convenience store in Richmond. His contributions to our neighborhood are countless, and we believe he is a deserving of a blessing.
Michael Simpson’s journey as an entrepreneur began in his youth when he acquired two additional commercial properties adjacent to his market, providing opportunities for aspiring business owners. Over the years, Mr. Simpson has earned a reputation as a father figure to the fatherless and a dependable brother to the entire community. One of his most notable contributions was hosting a free annual block party that served over 2,000 people with unlimited food, entertainment, and essential resources.
Mr. Simpson’s dedication to service has not gone unnoticed. He has received numerous accolades, including the Awesome Award from the Rising Suns Foundation for his outstanding service to Richmond’s citizens. Additionally, the mayor issued a proclamation recognizing his dedication and service to the community.
This year, Michael Simpson suffered a stroke and the store has been closed while he's recovering. Prior to, he was working on revitalizing the store and neighboring businesses. The buildings that house Simpson’s Market were constructed in 1920 and are now in dire need of renovations. It is our hope that as a community, Mr. Simpson can revitalize these historic structures, ensuring that his legacy of community support, entrepreneurship, and innovation can continue for years to come.
