Help restore Moorlinch Fingerposts
Donation protected
We are very lucky to have 3 wonderful old cast iron Somerset Council Fingerpost road signs in the village, 2 by the pub and one at the top of the village on Moor Road - but sadly they are in a very poor state of repair with peeling paint and the loss of the original cast iron 'fingers'.
It would be fantastic to have them restored to their original condition with proper cast iron fingers and fresh paint - they would be lovely landmarks in our village.
I have done some investigation and found that it is quite common for local communities getting together to restore their own signs. So that is the challenge I have been encouraged to take on and I'm reaching out to you for your help and donations so we can make it happen.
The work needed will involving stripping and repainting the posts in the original colours and attaching new fingers. I have also found there several local foundries that will supply replacement fingers - in the original iron and style and with the right lettering - ready to be installed.
We will need paint and volunteers to do the work and 5 new fingers. The cast iron fingers are the key bits but they are not cheap at approximately £500 each meaning that the total cost will be in the order of £3000.
We have some promises of support from Anne Farmers village fund and the Moorlinch Good Neighbours Committee which have got us off to a great start.
I'm now asking for volunteers to help with the prep work and repainting and to donate what you can and feel is appropriate on the Village Fingerpost GoFundme.
I'll keep the Village Clerk upto date with donations and use the funds to pay for the new fingers and materials needed.
