HELP RESTORE FLOOD-DAMAGED COMMUNITY AND CHILDREN’S ROOMS!
WHAT HAPPENED:
On September 11, 2022 a “supercell” rainstorm hit Chicago’s Northwest Side. It unexpectedly flooded many homes and businesses, as well as our church, Cornerstone Anglican Church in Portage Park .
Since the heavy rain overwhelmed the Chicago sewer system, the entire first floor of our church filled with several inches of contaminated sewage water.
WHAT WAS AFFECTED:
- Children’s ministry rooms, which we use on Sundays and for a midweek moms gathering
- Our large fellowship hall, which is vital to our community life. For example: earlier this year, we hosted a fundraiser in our fellowship hall for relief efforts in Ukraine — an idea that began with one of our children!
- The kitchen
- Primary bathrooms
- Storage areas
Members of our congregation acted quickly to recover as much as they could, but these rooms suffered irreversible water damage. Some of our childrens' ministry materials were lost as well.
WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP:
We are a growing church with a big heart. We’re eager for these spaces to be rebuilt quickly so we can continue serving our congregation (especially our children) and our neighbors.
Like many in Portage Park who were affected by this flooding, our building insurance will not cover these damages. We are inviting you to join us in helping restore these important rooms as soon as possible.
WHAT IT WILL TAKE:
In order to rebuild these spaces and prevent any future flood damage, here’s what your gift would help us fund:
- Remove damaged flooring: $2,500
- Re-floor Cornerstone Kids classrooms : $9,000
- Replace damaged Cornerstone Kids materials: $500
- Work with the City of Chicago to upgrade water line to prevent future flooding: $10,000
- Re-floor fellowship hall and kitchen: $13,000
- Total goal: $35,000

Any donations will be collected in a restricted fund set aside by The Greenhouse Movement for repairs and improvements to our church property. All donations will be used solely for repairing damage incurred in our basement during the September 11 flood.***
