Recently, my daughter's vehicle was stolen and then used in a robbery and shooting in Kansas City, Missouri.
The car had finally been paid off after years of high payments. The VA had helped install a lift for my daughter and son in law's mobility scooter. My daughter used this vehicle to help me to my appointments (and I beat two unrelated cancers in a calendar year thanks to her care and transport). She used this vehicle to get my granddaughter to her many appointments and from school. It is essential to my whole family's well-being. My daughter and that car have been a lifeline for us.
The car was eventually recovered and returned by police a few weeks later, and it came back badly damaged, rammed in the rear, handles and windows gone, ignition gone, and the mobility rack is no longer safely usable for us.
For people with severe medical challenges, they had to reduce to liability insurance as soon as the car was paid off as a way to save every possible dollar. This was a particularly devastating blow. It hurts to know if the car had been stolen a short time prior, everything would've been covered but a small deductible. The repairs are estimated at $8,693 to get back whole, but we really just need the basics. Without this car to meet their and my daily needs, life has become an enormous challenge.
I have always had a hard time asking anybody for anything, let alone for help like this. I am 82 years old as of 9/11 and I feel certain the kids don't want me behind the wheel anymore (lol). So I rely on this car and my daughter's caregiving too.
Thank you for your time to read this, for your friendship and kindness, and every nickel will help.
