Help Restore Cottonwood's Flooded Park
Tax deductible
The Cottonwood Community Center & Park are located in an unincorporated southern Shasta County, California. Being in an unincorporated community, we do not receive tax dollars for recreation. Our center and park were established in 1988 with seed funds donated by The Cottonwood Chamber of Commerce. Our center is primarily fueled by donations and volunteers. The community center serves as a venue to host weddings, family reunions, celebrations of life, 4H, and many other local groups. Our land includes the Crowley Gulch. The Gulch has breached its banks a couple of times this winter. One of those times, water was even pushed into our building. When the flooding occurred, the bark from under our play structure park area was washed away. We also had damage done to the decomposed granite cornhole court.
In an attempt to protect our park and building in the future, we plan to build two block walls that will redirect floodwaters to run through our parking lot, causing less damage to our property. We are also working with our neighboring Little League to get a permit for cleaning out the gulch area. We are hopeful that this will also reduce our risk of future flooding. We must have the bark under our play structure as a soft fall zone for kids, so this will be the first part of the project to be tackled. We are also planning a park spring cleaning day on March 8th, 2025, to shovel all of that bark into place.
We need your help! Grab your friends and family, come out and work together with our community to make it better. Please help if you can by donating, sharing our GoFundMe to cover the material costs, or showing up.
