There is an elderly couple in my community who are facing a truly difficult situation. For reasons beyond their control, their home has become unsafe and unsanitary, and they are unable to afford the professional help needed to restore it. The repairs required are extensive—everything from deep cleaning to new carpets and carpentry work. Because the conditions have become hazardous, only specialized professionals can take on the job, and the costs are far beyond what the couple can manage.

As a neighbor, I have witnessed their struggle firsthand. The couple, both in their 70s, may be dealing with mental or physical health challenges that make it impossible for them to address these issues on their own. Now, they are facing legal action if their home is not brought up to standard, and the risk of losing their home is very real. It is heartbreaking to see them in this position, especially knowing how much they want to stay in the community they love. The wife is so embarrassed by the situation that she often hides in a room when someone has to enter their house for regulatory reasons. They are friendly with me, and my heart goes out to them.
