Hi, all!
The Lutheran Social Services National Capital Area's Afghan Allies program is helping to resettle Afghan refugees in the greater Washington DC area. As part of this effort, I'm helping to furnish an apartment in northern Virginia for an Afghan family of 5 who just recently arrived in the United States after escaping the collapse of the Afghan state. Many or most of these Afghans have supported US military forces in Afghanistan over the past two decades, and desperately deserve our support as they fled their homes in search of a new life in America.
In furnishing an apartment, I hope to raise enough funds to purchase new mattresses, bed frames, and linens for each family member; purchase or acquire living room, dining room, and bedroom furniture; and purchase a wide variety of households goods to ensure the family has what it needs when they move into their new apartment. Many such items must be purchased new. As such, I estimate an initial need of at least $3,000, although any leftover funds will be put into gift card for the family to use for food or other expenses.
These brave individuals have left everything and have nothing. Any help you can provide to give these people a new start would be most welcome and genuinely appreciated. In many cases, they risked their lives to help us in Afghanistan. Now, we owe them in return.
Thank you, and God bless.
