Help resettle an Afghan family in Washington, DC!
Donation protected
Dear friends, family, loved ones:
Thousands of Afghans remain in limbo, many on U.S. military bases, since being evacuated and airlifted from Afghanistan last summer. In response to the critical and immediate need to resettle Afghan evacuees arriving in the United States in recent months, the US launched a Sponsor Circles program, which allows everyday people to come together and form a support system for a newly arriving family. A few friends and I have come together to form a Sponsor Circle, and I am reaching out to you to help us resettle an Afghan family in our city of DC.
Traditionally, the federal government provides a one-time payment of $2,275 for each refugee served by a refugee agency. As a Sponsor Circle, we have taken on the task of raising this money ourselves and providing direct assistance to the family. We hope to resettle a family of five, which means, at a minimum, we need to raise $11,375.
100% of the funds collected will directly support the newcomers who will become part of our community in DC. This financial support includes housing, food, clothes, basic necessities, legal assistance, and transportation for at least ninety days, and other resources as needed, all of which our Circle has committed to providing. If, for some reason, not all of the funds are used, they will be donated to React DC, a non-profit with whom we are working. React DC is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt not-for-profit.
More about the program
We are participating in an emergency program launched by the State Department last October that allows five ordinary people (a "Sponsor Circle") to resettle Afghan evacuees in their own community. Sponsor Circles provide the relocation and integration services otherwise provided by U.S. refugee agencies, dramatically increasing the U.S. capacity to resettle Afghan evacuees.
