We had a baby!

Oskar Fawkes was born October 31st, and at just 5lbs 6oz, he’s a tiny but mighty little kiddo.

Both Natassja and Oskar are healthy and doing well so far after the birth!

We are extremely lucky to have been in very good hands at UW Medicine - Montlake Seattle for the birth, because there were a myriad of unexpected complications before, during, and after delivery. In the last weeks of pregnancy, Natassja developed preeclampsia that became severe during induced labor, and Oskar stopped tolerating labor contractions and was born via emergency cesarean, arriving small for his fetal age. The team at the hospital worked quickly to ensure both Natassja and Oskar's safety, and we are incredibly grateful it went the way it did. This means that they are both now being very closely monitored as they recover.

These complications necessitated a week-long stay in the hospital, and months of doctors appointments and follow-up visits now ensue. These are preventing us from going back to work for a period of time longer than we anticipated. Natassja will be unable to return to work for at least 10-12+ weeks, and with a newborn to take care of, Matt now also needs to be home to take care of Natassja and Oskar.

Our friends and family have already showered us with a meal train, cat sitting, and food delivery to ensure we have what we need to fill our bellies. We are so grateful for all of their support!
