One day my daughter Megan told me she had heard of this amazing place called Volunteers of America (VOA). They run a Youth Resource Center that provides food and shelter for youth experiencing homelessness in Salt Lake City. We signed up to make a dinner and were hooked!It's such a meaningful way to make a direct difference in the world. The young people are so grateful and it really brings so much good will to a family (or group) to serve together.

We visited and loved the place so much that when Danny graduated from college, he accepted a paid job as their Volunteer Coordinator. He makes sure all 3 meals (365 days a year) are covered by a volunteer group (and if they're not, he finds someone to help). We continue to support the YRC whatever way we can.

Recently both their washing machines broke and are unrepairable. The youth had no way to wash their clothes for over two weeks. After I posted about this need, we had a generous donor fund a washer/dryer almost immediately. There was much rejoicing at the YRC!

And now we would like to replace the other broken washer/dryer. The winter season brings more people to the shelter needing help and they are now serving over 60 people a day. With one washing machine. No matter how you do the math, that is too many people. They need another working washer/dryer.
