Staten Island’s Community Fridge has been a shared resource for our neighborhood since the early days of COVID. It’s a place where nutritious food is available to anyone who needs it, and where neighbors can contribute what they can.
Right now, the fridge needs repairs, and the surrounding walls and shelves need refurbishment. Without these updates, we risk losing a resource that dozens of families and seniors count on for reliable, accessible, and healthy food. We will also use money raised to ensure that the fridge lowers carbon emissions by purchasing a ENERGY STAR-efficient commercial fridge or investing in solar panels and building a security box around panels.
This is an opportunity to work with the community to revitalize and reopen the fridge with support from local residents and partners like Yummy Deli owners Ibrahim and Naji, Prince Tech, and Forgotten Foods. Your partnership will further help us raise money to buy a new fridge to offset the cost of repairs and volunteer efforts.
Let’s keep the door open and the shelves full. Together, we can ensure this neighborhood resource stays strong and continues to serve everyone.
We also want to honor and thank the efforts of the following groups and community members who have sustained the fridge for all of these years with consistent maintenance and organizing community events and food distributions. Many of these people we cannot name because they silently contribute and maintain the fridge. However, their efforts do not go unnoticed! These are the names of the groups and community members who we know: Mama Rosaria’s Pizzeria & Ristorante, Gwendolyn and Jasmine Robinson, Lambda Kappa Mu Sorortit Inc, Faith United Methodist Church, Patricia Brooks, Green City Force, The Sylvia Center, and National Council of Negro Women (NCNW).
