Help Restore Race Rock's (Unsafe) Railing
Donation protected
We need to raise $25,000 to install a new railing at Race Rock.
New London Maritime Society (NLMS) received a $100,000 grant from the Ludwick Family Foundation to help with the restoration of Race Rock Lighthouse. We asked the US Coast Guard what they most needed repaired at the lighthouse. They said: the railing. Rusted and broken, the iron railing at the lighthouse is unsafe.
Stonington Steel is remaking the original design of the railing. In fact, it's being built onshore right now. The grant covers the design work and construction of the railing. It will be installed at Race Rock in August. Like the USCG, safety is our #1 concern.
Before that, we must raise an additional $25,000 to cover installation expenses out at the lighthouse. Please donate. Please help us Replace the Railing at Race Rock Light.
NLMS preserves four historic maritime landmarks: New London Harbor Light (est. 1761, current tower 1801), the NL Custom House (1833), Race Rock Lighthouse (1878), and NL Ledge Light (1909). We run the Custom House Maritime Museum -- telling the stories of the local waterfront. Local, friendly, authentic, we promote, interpret, and celebrate the rich maritime life & history of the port of New London and the surrounding region through museum exhibitions, educational programs, and preservation initiatives.
