Raleigh, once a thriving mining town near Beckley, West Virginia, is now home to many elderly residents who have lived here since the 1950s. Over the years, this beautiful area has been overlooked, and many locals are struggling to maintain safe and comfortable homes. Leaky roofs, broken windows, and unsafe porches are just a few of the challenges facing these neighbors, many of whom can no longer do the repairs themselves due to age, health, or limited finances.

As a retired carpenter with 30 years of experience, I recently moved to Raleigh to enjoy my retirement and start a homestead. After donating my time to repair the ceiling at West Raleigh Baptist Church, I went for a ride and I saw firsthand—thanks to Preacher Frank M.—just how many people in this community are in desperate need of help. It broke my heart to see so many wonderful people, who have spent their lives caring for this town and each other, now struggling to live in safe, adequate homes.

I want to use my skills to give back, but I can’t do it alone. I’m asking for your help to raise funds for materials and labor so we can begin making much-needed repairs. My first goal is to help an elderly widowed woman living alone. She has called Raleigh "home" her entire life and now needs the support of her community. Your donation will help restore dignity and comfort to these amazing neighbors, showing them that Raleigh still cares.
