Help Repair Gary & Glenda Schattel's Roof

UPDATE: The roof has been repaired!!!

We are the children of Gary & Glenda Schattel. We find ourselves in a very difficult situation and are needing to reach out and ask for help on behalf of our parents. If you know our parents, you know that they have always given of themselves and gone above and beyond to help anyone in need. Their hearts are bigger than most we know. They are not people to ask for help. Therefore, we are asking for them.

This spring, my parents were the recipients of an anonymous nomination to receive help from First Methodist Church's ministry to help deserving individuals in our community with outside home repairs. They helped repair and replace some of their chain link fence, did tons of yard work, cleaning, repairing fascia boards and soffits. They even put new paint on the house. There were a lot of hours put in with hard work from many. It was a blessing that our parents can never express in words just how much it meant.

Our parents' health has steadily declined through the years with age, and they are simply not able to do what they used to be able to do. With health issues, they have also had their share of financial difficulties that led to my parents losing home insurance. Which is what leads us to where we are now. During the past storm, it led to a huge tree falling in on their house and roof. We were able to remove the tree from the roof and placed a tarp over the hole. The roof was in very poor condition to begin with and is leaking into their home in various places causing mold and mildew.

We have collected $1500.00 as of 1/4/2025. Although the entire roof needs to be replaced, we are just trying to raise enough money to at least repair the main part of the roof where the majority of the leaks are at. We had been given a quote of $10,000 to replace the entire roof and that just isn't going to happen. We are realistically looking at around $5000-$6000 for supplies including replacing some of the rotted wood. We will be doing the roof work ourselves to absorb the labor cost. Anything we can raise will help and we will update here as we go.
