Nov 9 Update: I am pausing the donations as of now. We have funds to keep the beach open for 3 more weeks after the 19th. If the shutdown persists I will reopen. As mentioned, any unused funds collected will be donated to the SF-Marin Foodbank. It was wonderful to see so many people on the beach, kids, people crabbing, swimming, and folks spending time with friends and family. Public spaces should be open- thanks for all of the support in this effort!
China Beach opened Nov 5 with crowd sourced funding through Nov 19th! We are going to keep the fundraiser open to try and fund for 2 more weeks if the shutdown persists. Any funds left over will be donated to the San Francisco- Marin Foodbank.
Thanks for contributing and for helping to keep closed public lands open during the shutdown!
info required by GoFundMe:
This fundraiser was started by me, David Yacubian, from San Francisco, in hopes of reopening China Beach for the larger community. I have entered into an agreement with the GGNRA to pay funds to them. The funds raised here will go to my bank and then be transferred directly to The National Park Service to pay maintenance staff that will be servicing China Beach trash and recycling during this time. Staff will be paid by NPS without delay since these are private funds. I do not have a relationship to the National Park Service aside from being the named party on the agreement to reopen China Beach.
Please contact me with any questions.
Dave
