We are a small group of Wallingford/Meriden residents have worked to bring an Afghan family to our community. They arrived on May May 2, 2025. This family left prosecution from the Taliban Army because they worked with our military by providing translation services. It is not safe to live in their home country. With guidance from resettlement experts and resources provided by the "No one Left Behind" organization, our group's goal is to connect this family directly with our community, fostering social networks, self-sufficiency, and a true sense of belonging.

These collective acts of welcome not only strengthen our community but also build vital support for refugee protection by involving our community directly in the resettlement process.

It should be noted that this family will be here under the US refugee Special Immigration Visa (SIV) program and have gone through the rigorous security, health and background checks and qualify for this protected status and will be here legally as part of this government program.
