Help refugees during the COVID19 crisis
Donation protected
With the COVID19 pandemic occupying the attentions of the international community, many refugee communities are no longer receiving the assistance they need from the UN and other relief organizations. In Nakivale Refugee Settlement in Western Uganda, refugees have been reduced to 30% rations, and households are expected to subsist on 22,000 Ugandan shillings per month, the equivalent of about $5.50. To make matters worse, these restrictions have caused the prices of basic commodities like rice and cooking oil to rise dramatically, making them unaffordable for many refugees. Furthermore, these reductions will leave leave refugees even more vulnerable to COVID19, which could lead to potentially devastating results in Nakivale Refugee Settlement, where social distancing isn’t an option and health centres are already overwhelmed.
Talented Orphan Healing Aid (TOHA) is a community-based organization in Nakivale, which has been providing crucial help to vulnerable children in the Burundian and Congolese refugee communities since 2015. Given the increased economic difficulties faced by refugees in Nakivale, TOHA would like to create a community COVID-19 emergency fund. The emergency fund will serve 2 purposes:
(1) Door-to-door campaigns to raise awareness and share information about COVID19
(2) Installation of hand-washing facilities (see the photo below)

(3) Providing food and charcoal to vulnerable members of the community during the lockdown
This is an unpredictable, turbulent, and scary time for the world – let’s unite as a global community to protect the most vulnerable amongst us.
