Hey there!

My name is Olina and I’m hoping to raise funds for a group of beautiful musicians in Siargao, Philippines who have recently been evicted from the land they call home.

A few years back, Ybong, Dougie, Smile, Teddy, Cliff and Lex came from different islands and gathered in Siargao, where they built a small campsite on Kawili Beach. With their generosity of spirit, the campsite slowly became a home for music, healing, shared meals and community for both the locals and travellers. During my time there, I was welcomed like family and shown a way of living that truly surrounded the values of sharing and connection.

Rather than opting into conventional tourism, these guys are preserving their culture by sharing their ideologies with others. In facilitating activities like beach clean ups, traditional boodle fight cook-ups and drumming circles, they have helped establish a respect for the land + people that is extended throughout tourism in Siargao. In having Filipino lifestyle acknowledged and celebrated by travellers, the magic of Siargao has been sustained and it’s so so important that this continues.

Sadly, the government reclaimed the land this New Year in order to build a new establishment; dismantling the camp and beautiful sanctuary the guys have built. Their home is gone and they have been forced to separate in order to survive. With Siargao rapidly developing after COVID, many sacred places like this are disappearing and it’s more important than ever that locals continue to have a say in their community.

So instead of giving up, they want to begin again. We are raising funds to help them build a simple, sustainable home just outside of General Luna so there is a new place for them to keep sharing this way of life. This is not about luxury, it’s about helping them make ends meet and supporting a community that gives more than it takes.

Any support possible will help turn this loss into a new beginning and keep the spirit alive. All funds will go directly to the guys and used with love.
