Hi, my name is Ash, and me and my family are fundraising to support the Santa Cruz community in St Elizabeth, Jamaica, where my family live, following the devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa.

When the hurricane hit, it tore through the area, leaving widespread damage behind. Homes were destroyed, power was lost, and many families were left without basic necessities. Long after the storm passed, the reality on the ground has remained incredibly tough.

This is the part people don’t always see.

Families without safe housing.

People sleeping wherever they can, including bus stops.

Limited electricity and infrastructure.

Elderly residents trying to cope alone.

My grandmother is 87 years old and lives on her own in Santa Cruz. Seeing how vulnerable people like her and many others have been left has been heartbreaking. This isn’t about one building or one organisation; it’s about a community trying to survive and rebuild with very little support.

While the headlines have faded, daily life for many families in Santa Cruz is still incredibly difficult. Recovery is slow, resources are limited, and the need for help remains urgent.

To raise awareness and funds, I’ve committed to taking on a personal endurance challenge that pushes me well outside my comfort zone.

In March 2026, I’ll be running the Heaton Park Back Yard Ultra

6.7km every hour, on the hour, until only one person remains.

The current record stands at five consecutive days.

There’s no fixed finish line.

No set distance.

Just resilience, mental and physical.

All funds raised through this page will be distributed directly to support the Santa Cruz community in St Elizabeth, helping families with immediate needs, recovery support, and rebuilding efforts. My family are working closely with people on the ground to ensure the money goes where it’s needed most.

Any contribution, no matter the size, truly makes a difference.
