Help Rebuild Guava Ground, Clarendon: Bringing Hope Back to Our Beloved Village
Hello everyone, my name is Natasha, I was born in a place called Guava Ground—also known as Croft Hill —in the Clarendon parish. Though I moved to the UK when I was just ten years old, this village is and always will be my first home.
Recently, Jamaica has been hit hard by Hurricane Melissa, and like so many small villages, Guava Ground has suffered immense devastation. The winds and rains tore through this tight-knit community, leaving many of our elders and families without the basic necessities. Homes have lost their roofs, and the one place that has always been the heart of the village—our local church—now stands in ruins.
This church is more than just a building; it’s where every wedding, every funeral, and every community gathering happens. It’s the one space where everyone comes together to share in life’s biggest moments and to find comfort in each other. Seeing it damaged has left the village not just physically broken, but emotionally shaken as well.
While Jamaica as a whole is grappling with the aftermath of this hurricane, small villages like Guava Ground often suffer the most. They can be overlooked, and they don’t always get the urgent help that larger towns receive. Many of the people there are elders who rely on the support of family abroad—yet for some, there is no family abroad to rely on at all.
That’s why I’m asking for your help. Our first priority is to raise funds to rebuild the roof of our beloved church and restore it as a gathering place for everyone. We’re also collecting donations—both financial and physical goods like clothing and sanitary supplies—so that we can send immediate relief to those who need it most. Every single contribution, no matter the size, will make a real difference in bringing hope and stability back to Guava Ground.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking the time to read this and for any support you can offer. Together, we can help rebuild this wonderful village and give its people a place to call home again.
