Our 70-year-old mother was the victim of the 'gold bar' scam, and the scammers drained her entire life savings. This was money she saved from the sale of our childhood home that she sold after her husband died of cancer far too young. She currently lives with her 92-year-old mother as her full-time caretaker with no pay, in addition to working a job in the in-between hours.

At the behest of law enforcement, we have taken over her financial management and are trying to earn back whatever we can that the scammers took from her so that she has something to live off when she is no longer capable of working. We certainly don't expect to make all the money she lost back, but want to take whatever we can recoup and make it work as hard as possible in order to ensure she can live out the rest of her years in peace, knowing she has what she needs to get by.
