I am a survivor of domestic abuse, having endured two back-to-back abusive marriages. The trauma from these experiences has left deep scars, but I am determined to heal and rebuild my life. I inherited my grandmother's house, which should be a place of comfort and safety, but keeping up with the bills and necessary repairs on my own has been overwhelming. Because of my financial situation, I am unable to get loans or a mortgage, and the house next door is currently being renovated. I worry that once their work is finished, my home will look abandoned in comparison, adding to the stress I already feel.

Renovating my home would do so much more than just fix up the property—it would help relieve the constant stress and allow me to feel better about myself. The abuse I endured made me feel like I had failed, and the words of my ex-husbands still echo in my mind, telling me that the house would fall apart if I chose to leave. But I had to choose myself and my healing. With these renovations, I could finally host family dinners and create new, positive memories in a safe space, which would be a huge step forward on my journey to recovery.
