⚾️ Help Rebuild Mayfield Youth Baseball After Devastating Vandalism ⚾️
For the past three years, our community has worked incredibly hard to rebuild and grow Mayfield Youth Baseball. What was once struggling has become something we are all proud of again. Through countless volunteer hours, fundraisers, and generous support from families and local businesses, we have slowly built our program back up to give the kids in our community a place to learn, grow, and fall in love with the game of baseball.
Every improvement we have made — from field work to equipment to our concession stand — has been made possible by the support of this community.
Unfortunately, this week we experienced something heartbreaking.
While meeting with a construction company to begin planning a project to convert our lower field into a softball field for the girls in our program, we discovered that our concession stand and storage areas had been vandalized.
The damage was extensive and devastating.
Equipment that helps us operate the concession stand — our program’s number one fundraiser — was destroyed. Our TV menu screen was smashed, the hot dog roller broken, fryers dismantled, Keurig machine destroyed with K-cups smashed across the floor, and our nacho cheese machine broken. The money drop box was smashed in an attempt to remove it from the wall, equipment and supplies were thrown everywhere, and spray paint and graffiti covered the walls.
Fencing and gates were bent and damaged. A sledgehammer from our storage area was used to smash cinderblocks and damage the fencing. A hole was opened in the ceiling with insulation disturbed and supplies thrown into the rafters.
Even more devastating was the damage to our field equipment. Our zero-turn mower, which we rely on to keep our fields in playable condition, was spray-painted, carb dismantled, and an unknown substance was poured into the gas tank.
But one of the most heartbreaking losses was something that meant so much to our organization and our community.
Over the past several seasons, we built a community uniform closet through donations from generous families. This closet allowed us to provide gently used pants, belts, cleats, helmets, and equipment to families who might otherwise struggle to afford everything needed for their child to play.
It helped ensure that every child in our community — regardless of financial circumstances — could step on the field with the equipment they needed and feel like part of the team.
Sadly, the entire closet was destroyed. An unknown substance was poured over the donated equipment, helmets were smashed, and the items so many families relied on are now unusable.
The timing makes this even more difficult. Our season begins in just three short weeks, and the concession stand is our primary source of fundraising to support the program, maintain the fields, purchase equipment, and continue improving the experience for the kids of Mayfield.
Instead of preparing for opening day, we are now facing thousands of dollars in repairs and replacement costs just to get back to where we were before the vandalism.
We are asking our community for help.
Any donation, no matter the size, will go directly toward repairing the damage, replacing destroyed equipment, and making sure our players still have the season they deserve.
If you are unable to donate, sharing this fundraiser with others would mean just as much.
Mayfield Youth Baseball has always been about community, opportunity, and giving kids a place to belong. With your support, we believe we can rebuild and continue the progress that so many people have worked so hard to create.
⚾️ Our kids deserve better than this — and with your help, we will make sure they get it.
Thank you for supporting Mayfield Youth Baseball.
