A fire in a laundry room damaged an apartment unit in Wilson Monday morning. Deputy Fire Chief James P. Campbell of Wilson Fire/Rescue Services said firefighters were dispatched to the London Church Road Apartments at 1812 London Church Road at 11:50 a.m.

“Crews arrived on the scene and found a single-story residential duplex apartment with smoke showing,” Campbell said. “The fire was found in the laundry room and quickly extinguished by fire personnel. All searches of both apartments found no occupants. The cause of the fire was undetermined.”

Campbell said there were no firefighter or civilian injuries in the incident.

“The American Red Cross was contacted for the displaced occupants,” Campbell said.

Eight fire vehicles and 23 firefighters responded to the scene, he said.

The chief estimated property damage at $30,000 and content damage at $5,000.

Firefighters were assisted on the scene by the Wilson Police Department, Wilson County Emergency Medical Services and Wilson County Emergency Communications Center.
