A MYSTERIOUS FIRE THAT BURNT MY HOUSE,

I consider my every Sunday in the course of the week as a day to meet with fellow women in my community area where I live. I have encouraged women in my community to get involved in weekly savings meeting so women are able to save their own money, borrow and invest it into businesses or meet other demands in their families. Women are also supported by each other when they have family challenges, the whole group members are caring, loving , supportive and with the same goal and objective to grow as a team.

It was on Sunday 20th February 2022 at around 9:30 am in the morning , when I saw a child runs to me where we sit for our weekly savings screaming to his loudest voice that my house has caught fire, everyone got up in shocked and we all left what we where doing as we headed towards my house, as I saw the smoke on the roofs, I felt my energy was completely off and I could not move nor do anything instead I stood from far in tears, imagining how I struggled to built the house which took me 5 years planning and it less that 20 minutes the whole building was down, the asset in the house included beds, mattresses, suitcases, bedsheets and so many other things worth millions of shillings got burnt within minutes, my tears kept on rolling as I sat their helpless.

In about 20 minutes I gained back some strength and I moved towards home and on arrival that is when the roof finally felt down with the fire with a lot of burning glasses, car tyres , and other electrical gadgets in the room making noise, I moved closely to find out what could have been the cause as many people grabbed me not to step close to the house. It was the most terrifying moment for me, watching my struggles derail and I remained with no hope of recovery.

According to the kids who where around the compound , fire came from a rubbish pit which was being burnt and being dry season, the fire expanded till when it reached a banana plantation within my backyard and having dry leaves, it caught fire that later extended to the grass thatched roof and caused the house burning.

My appeal is to reach out to the well-wishers who can support me recover and raise back the structure since most times when HCU volunteers are here we use it.

Prices per item for the construction:

Raising wall: 1,250,000UGX /350USD

That includes all the materials needed for the wall building.

Roofing: 5,218,000UGX / 1,459USD

That includes all the roofing items and iron sheets to replace the grass roof.

Floor and finishing: 930,000UGX/260USD

Lumpsum for the materials to be used

Toilets and bathrooms: 650,000UGX/182USD

Toilets pan, showers and other plumbing fittings

Doors and windows: 540,000UGX/151USD

Repairs and glass fittings/Replacement of one widow and repairing the old door and fitting new glasses.
