Help Rebuild George's Plain After Hurricane Melissa

Donation protected
Hi, I’m Simone Walker, born and raised in George's Plain, Westmoreland, JA. On Oct 28, 2025, category 5 Hurricane Melissa ripped through Jamaica, leaving behind a trail of catastrophic damages. My family is safe, but a large number of homes have lost their roofs, interiors are water-damaged, belongings destroyed, some homes totally destroyed, 99% of Westmoreland is without power, there is no running water, and access is limited due to blocked roads. Communication is spotty, so I’m launching this now and adapting as we confirm more on the ground.

I’m starting with an initial goal of $10,000 USD (≈ $1.6M JMD) to move fast, stay transparent, and scale as we learn more. We’ll work in two phases:

Phase 1: Essentials
Get food, safe water, and emergency supplies into George's Plain immediately, then start equipping households with practical relief kits. Some homes can be stabilized with tarps and tools; others are uninhabitable and need a family tent (e.g., my uncle’s). I’ll share receipts and photo updates as purchases and distributions happen.

Phase 2: Roof replacement & repairs (goal will update)

Once we can assess each home, we’ll bulk-buy roofing materials and hire local carpenters to replace missing roofs, starting with the most vulnerable families. I’ll update the goal and plan with quantities, pricing, and timing as soon as we have verified counts.

Who we’re helping

This fundraiser supports families in George's Plain, Westmoreland, including my own relatives, who lost roofs, belongings, and entire homes. Funds are used based on need, with priority for uninhabitable/roofless homes, the elderly/disabled, and households with infants or medical needs. I will not take any personal profit. We are providing in-kind supplies (food, water, tarps, tents, tools, hygiene) and will document with receipts + photo updates. As my immediate family receives supplies, it will be logged exactly the same way as every other household.

Accountability & updates

I’ll run this with full transparency: posting receipts, photos/videos, and simple logs as supplies are purchased and delivered. Local distribution will be coordinated on the ground as communication stabilizes. I’ll share frequent updates, at minimum weekly while Phase 1 is underway, and openly adjust the plan and goal as we confirm needs home-by-home.

Why this matters
George's Plain is a small, close-knit community. Most houses are modest wooden structures that can be stabilized quickly with the right supplies, and then rebuilt stronger once materials are in hand. Your support protects families today and sets us up to restore roofs next.

If you can’t donate, a share truly helps. Thank you for standing with George's Plain.

One love,
Simone

Mini-FAQ

Will Simone or her family benefit?
Only as equal beneficiaries within George's Plain, because their homes were damaged like everyone else. We distribute in-kind supplies (not cash) and track deliveries with simple logs. Updates will include receipts and photos.

How do you decide who gets help first?
Need-based criteria: (1) uninhabitable/roofless homes, (2) elderly/disabled, (3) infants/medical needs, then (4) other households.

What happens if donations exceed immediate needs?
Extra funds go to additional households in George's Plain, then Phase 2 roof repairs (materials + local carpenters). We’ll post a revised budget before shifting phases.
