The Fama Drive entry signs—which have been part of our neighborhood for 70 years—were hit by a distracted, uninsured driver on North Druid Hills Road.

It happened on August 23 and if you’ve seen the damage you know that the two signs—each with a brick base and metal FAMA DRIVE lettering—need to be repaired. So, the Fama Pines Garden Club is raising funds.

The objective is to return the signs to their original state as much as possible. This may cost as much as $7500. Even using salvageable materials. A total rebuild would cost a great deal more than that.

The south sign requires substantial work. Neighbor, Michael Powell, is making masterful progress getting the metalwork back in shape. Steve Brunner has found a skilled mason to repair the brickwork at a reasonable price.

But the foundation is now unstable and it will need to be mostly rebuilt. The north sign itself is mostly intact.

But it will have to be cleaned up to match the other side once it is done. The planting beds are completely busted on both sides and will have to be reset, re-soiled and replanted.

If the owners of every house on Fama Drive and Jacolyn Place contribute $100, we will hit the mark of $7500.

With that, we can restore the signs as well as the planting beds.
