On Monday morning, a fire caused devastating damage to the Roof Garden at Blackstock Market in Liverpool.
Thankfully, nobody was injured. But the damage left behind is enormous.
The fire has now been investigated and determined to have been caused by a discarded cigarette. Blackstock have told me that the damage is not covered by their insurance, and they estimate the cost of rebuilding the Roof Garden could be between £300,000 and £400,000, before even considering the revenue they’ll lose while it remains closed.
I’m Jerome, better known online as Scouse Ghetto Gourmet, and I’ve set up this fundraiser independently because I believe Blackstock is worth fighting for.
Blackstock is an independent Liverpool venue that has become far more than somewhere to grab a drink.
It supports local food traders, musicians, comedians and performers. It puts on free family fundays and entertainment for kids. It’s hosted huge football crowds, community events and countless nights out.
Over the years, I’ve filmed there many times and watched the place grow into something that genuinely feels like part of Liverpool.
Now they need some of that support back.
We’re starting with a goal of £50,000 towards the cost of rebuilding the Roof Garden.
Nobody is expecting ordinary people to find £300,000 or £400,000. But there are a lot of us.
If 10,000 people gave a fiver, that’s £50,000.
If you can donate, thank you. If you can’t, please share this fundraiser. That costs absolutely nothing and could make just as much of a difference.
Liverpool is famous for looking after our own.
So let’s do our bit, and show people why this city is so great. ❤️
