Help Rebuild Black River High School post Hurricane Mellisa

Hi, my name is Dantaé Garee Elliott (Dr. Elliott), and I am an alum of Black River High School (BRHS), where my academic journey began. Black River High School in St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, has long been a pillar of education, resilience, and community pride. But in the wake of Hurricane Mellisa, our school suffered devastating damage. Classrooms were flooded, learning materials destroyed, and essential infrastructure severely affected. Today, we are asking for your support to help our students, teachers, and families rebuild, not just the physical school, but the sense of stability and hope that education provides.

Your contribution will directly support four urgent areas:

1. Replacing notebooks, textbooks, and laptops
Many students lost all their school materials during the storm. Without basic tools, learning cannot continue. Your donation helps us restore access to books, digital devices, and essential learning supplies.

2. Re-erecting damaged perimeter fencing. The school’s fencing was significantly damaged, creating safety concerns for students and staff. Rebuilding the perimeter is essential for maintaining a secure learning environment.

3. Replacing school uniforms and bags. Families across the community are struggling with losses. By helping replace uniforms and school bags, we ease the burden on parents and ensure students can return to school with dignity and confidence.

4. Supporting our classroom construction project. Even before the hurricane, Black River High was working to expand and modernize its learning spaces. Now, with hurricane damage, the need is even greater. You can directly support the construction and restoration of classrooms so students can return to safe, well-equipped spaces as soon as possible.

Black River High is more than a school; it is a lifeline for hundreds of children in St. Elizabeth. Rebuilding the school means restoring consistency, safety, and opportunity for students. Every dollar you give helps ensure that learning continues and that students have some sense of stability during this time of crisis, so they do not fall behind. BRHS has produced generations of successful alumni, including myself. We all walk with our school's motto, "we create our own destiny," the words that meet us at the gate of our school every morning, and a motto we carry throughout our lives.

As a dedicated alumnus and the organizer of this campaign, I am committed to complete transparency. I will share regular updates, photos, and reports so you can see the impact of your generosity. Your kindness will help rebuild what was lost and create a stronger future for Black River High School.

With gratitude,
Dr. Dantaé Garee Elliott, a member of the class of 2009, Black River High School, St. Elizabeth, Jamaica
